Mission Statement

West Desert Outdoor Products, a Utah limited liability company (“West Desert”), has designed a truck tool box carrying the trademark "Alumiknox™" to be unique in the marketplace, distinguished by an integrated secondary compartment, innovative latch closure mechanism and overall high quality of components and manufacture.

West Desert’s objective is to become the industry leader by offering the best-built box with the most desirable features. West Desert wants to sell every truck owner one tool box - the only truck box you'll ever need for that truck.

Company History

Through his own use of truck boxes and a lifetime of fishing, hunting and working in construction, West Desert’s founder, Dale Cheney, recognized the need for a box that could be more than a storage bin in the back of a pickup. In 1993, Dale began development of the first prototypes of the padded lid tray and obtained the first patent on that idea in 1995.

Additional refinements and renditions were developed over the years, also secured by patents, and the latest Alumiknox™ design, offered here, was recently awarded another patent on the hinge and closure systems.

Diligently staying at it with what they could afford and while keeping their day jobs in the meantime, Dale and partners have advanced the box to a point where it can now be stated, without exaggeration, that the West Desert Alumiknox truck box is the best value ever in a truck box.

Inspiration

For tools, sports equipment and other valuables, truck owners initially had to put these items or their carrying cases behind the seats of their trucks or in the bed. Truck boxes were developed to get these items out from behind or under the seat, or from moving around in the truck bed.

Commonly secured on the truck bed rails (“cross box”) or into the back wall, truck boxes are sometimes lockable and provide a certain level of security for content that sometimes equals that of the passenger compartment itself. This results in an incompatible mix of fragile or expensive items in with chains, tire jacks and the like in an unorganized or dirty truck box, or resorting to storing that precious gear left unsecured behind the seat or on the floor in the cab.

Anyone who has had something roll out from under the driver’s seat while making a quick stop can understand the danger of loose items in the cab.

If you’ve been unable to find a tool in your truck or box, have driven for an hour with tools or other equipment rattling around in your truck or pressing on your back through the seat or tried to deal with a rifle in the truck during the hunt, you can recognize the genius of the Alumiknox™ truck box.

The Alumiknox™ truck box reduces the difficulty of accessing important items and considerably increases safety while carrying items in a vehicle by removing firearms, tools and other items from the passenger compartment where they can become dangerous projectiles in the event of an accident or an obvious target for thieves. While stored in an Alumiknox™ truck box such gear is kept at least as safe and protected as if inside the cab.

Moving Forward

In the truck box industry, there are many manufacturers, but only the Alumiknox™ truck box has a full length, lockable, secondary compartment and a closure system that secures contents in place.

West Desert Outdoor Products will further differentiate the Alumiknox™ truck box using national advertising and will continue to innovate by adding low cost, high revenue features such as integrated lighting and custom colors. The Company will attempt to introduce a new product, refinement of an existing product, or additional optional features every one to two quarters.
